We represented BRE in successfully obtaining approvals for a mixed use project consisting of 482 apartment units and 40,000 square feet of commercial uses on an entire block located at Wilshire Boulevard and La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles. The project was opposed by a local preservation group that sought to prevent demolition of the 1960s-era vacant bank building on the site. We have worked with our client and the City to bolster the project's environmental impact report in the face of a possible challenge. The recent demolition of the existing building has effectively eliminated the preservationists' last-minute attempt to end run the City process by requesting that the State Historical Resources Commission declare the building to be eligible for State Register. We persuaded the City Council to oppose this nomination, and have also worked with the City Council office and local residents to revise the project design to gain support.
